Club Only Brew Day - October 13

Join the WIZARDS for our annual fall brew day to be held on October 13 at Brett's house in Framingham. This year we'll be having an open theme. That is, brew whatever you want to whatever style you chose. Brewing should start around 10 AM with a cookout dinner later in the day after the brewing dies down.

This is always an exciting event with a good turn out. For the past two years, the fall brew day theme has always been big beers and what a selection we've seen. Doppleweizenbocks, barley wines and imperial stouts have all made a showing. Another highlight of the past has been the appearance of the handpump which is always a great way to dispense your ales and fun to boot. Who knows what this year will bring?

Octoberfest - October 16

Will this be the year Phil see some real competition? Or will he walk away with the honors once again? Join us and find out who will be this year's Octoberfest winner in our annual competition.

On Tuesday, October 16, the club will host our annual Octoberfest competition. This is the night we pit the best our club has to offer against the best the Bavarians and the Americans can provide. Plan to arrive early, stay late and bring your festbiers.

WIZARD's Club Business

Dues

Dues for 2001/2002 are now due again. Dues are still a bargain at $12/year and cover most, if not all, of our club activities. Dues pay our nominal expenses like buying the pretzels and cups for meetings. The biggest way your dues are spent is at club functions where the club finds some way to treat everyone in attendance like buying the Christmas Ales at our holiday party this past December or buying the appetizers on the annual pub crawl.

Newsletter

As always, articles and suggestions for the newsletter are both welcomed and encouraged and should be sent directly to Bill.

Make Mine Mild - August Meeting

It was mild night at our August Club Meeting. In preparation for the AHA's Club Only Mild Competition at the end of this year, Bill shared his views on unique, and often mis-maligned beer style, with the club. If you learned nothing else, it should be mild refers to the hop bitterness and not taste, body or flavor of the beer. Now everyone can start brewing their own mild for the November club meeting where we'll pick the best of show to send in to the AHA's club only competition in December.

In case you missed the meeting, a complete article summarizing the talk can be found by clicking the mild on the left or on the club's web page.

The Other Stuff - Hints & Ideas

Brewing at Strangebrew

Watch for all-grain brewing demonstrations on Saturday's at Strangebrew. Brian started doing these demos a couple weeks ago and is looking for the WIZARDS to help him out by brewing at the store. He's offering a pretty good deal - you bring the equipment and do the work - he supplies the ingredients - you keep all the beer except a six pack or two.... See Brian if you're interested and don't forget to stop by and see who else is brewing. Check for availability by calling Brian at Strangebrew.
